HARNESSING THE HEALING POWER OF WORK
At Benevolent Baskets, women participate in different parts of running a gift basket business to develop marketable skills and regain their confidence and sense of worth. Depending on their interests, women participate in a range of activities and receive training in many facets of the business from designing the baskets to marketing, sales, customer service, procurement and logistics.
CREATING A PLACE WHERE WOMEN BELONG
Many of our women have been uprooted from their communities or families due to homelessness. Regaining a sense of stability, support and belonging is critical in their healing process. All new women are paired with a mentor to help them acclimate. We love hearing everyone refer to each other as sisters and witnessing the lifelong friendships that form.
JOB & HOUSING PLACEMENT
BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
Throughout their time with Benevolent Baskets, women receive transitional housing, healthcare, mental health and social work support through our partner organizations. In the final stages of the program we work closely with these partners to help our women secure permanent housing and reenter the workforce. Many of our women find careers that continue to give back, working with organizations like Second Chance, United Way or other Catholic Charities programs. And many women continue to support Benevolent Baskets as volunteers long after they've regained their independence. This virtuous cycle is one of the things that makes the program so special.
What We Do
Benevolent Baskets provides a unique component to recovery programs, assisting women in becoming self-sufficient. This is achieved by teaching important life and job skills via the gift basket business.
